How many of you were baptised at a young age?
by lepermessiah inone thing this site has made me reflect on the baptism practice in jw land.. many of us were raised in the religion, thus you were given the pressure early on to shoot for baptism as a goal.. i remember feeling bad because i waited until the ripe old age of 14 to take the plunge.. looking back, i realize that when i was 14, i didnt even know what my favorite color was, let alone have enough knowledge to make a life altering decision.
yet, growing up in that climate, i would say anyone who waited past their early teens to get baptised was viewed with great suspicion and was likely to be viewed as "bad association".
kids who took the dip at 8-9 years of age were viewed as "wise beyond their years" and the like.. how old were some of you when you were baptised, and what are your feelings on the matter?.

While You Were A JW Did You Feel Controlled?
by minimus inthe governing body constantly tries to impose its will on jehovah's witnesses.
they really don't want you to do anything but society approved things.
everything is "bad".. we can see this quite clearly at this point.

They tell you it is "protection" they use words to brainwash you into believing suppression and control is for you own good. I would often feel suppressed but thought it was because I was a good JW. I can't think for myself stupid they need to think for me!!! sick!!!

Like so many of you - I read lots of books and internet sites like this one !!!! great idea!!! I trew everything away that made me feel like a JW... not just books but "oh so modest dresses and shoes" I made new friends, started back in school, went out and did things I have never done, U2 concert, traveled, enjoyed the NOW of life... trying to help others!!!
the bad - it has taken me too long to get rid of the anger, and I still feel controlled by there thinking, I hate knowing they look down on me and think i am a bad person when to be honest I am a much better person then i WAS. Trying not to look down at them, they are just doing what they think is right... healing takes time, more than i thought it would...

I told my husband that I'm going to throw away my no blood card
by doublelife ini discussed my view with him and he understood the point i made but said that until he receives further instruction from the gb he will still refuse a transfusion.
i asked him if he would deny me a blood transfusion if i needed one and he said, "i don't know.
i went to lunch with my non-jw aunt and cousin and told them about the conversation.

My ex husband makes me feel bad:(
by Newborn infor leaving him (1.5 y ago) and for being a person he doesn't recognize anymore for leaving the org.. he still has feelings for me and still grieves every day that we're not together...i know it shouldn't get to me but it does...i had no choice but to leave him...i was so miserable for so many reasons but when i hear how sad he is it makes me sad.
(we have to have some contact coz of the apartment we lived in, unfortunately).
i just wish he could move on but he says he can't even look at another woman.. also, of course, he had to say that jehovah still loves me and that the end is sooooooooo near, just look at haiti!.

Question about a funeral for a DF'd person???
by lalaa inif somebody had been df'd for years, showed no interest in coming back and died, would it be okay to go to their funeral if you're still active???
what if a regular pioneer was this individuals' sister in law, would it be okay for them to go?
also, the deceased is having an elder give a talk at the funeral home...one more thing....this person's family is either inactive or df'd...all will be there...this person only has one brother who is still in the truth.. i know it's been years since i've been out of the truth but the last time i checked it was inappropriate to go to a dead df'd person funeral.

if it is for the family they may... or if the df'ed was making steps to come back... they do what they want and make up reasons why they are right

loving someone vs. being in love vs. infatuation....
by oompa inhelp me out here...i guess that there are all levels of love esp in a marriage.
with the tiger woods mess the news is there are many reasons people stay in marriages even when there is little or no love.... i have been infatuated before and i freakin love it!!!
!.....and btw...many a long term romance starts with infatuation...in fact i wonder how many people really in love started with it?
